Reflective Journal: Week 2

Defining our character and vehicle:

Our character is an intense, fashionable girl from a wealthy family. She does what she wants and she gets what she wants. She races for the thrill of the race! She is highly competitive and needs to win to defeat her arch nemesis, Cathy. Her cars are always well-kept and shiny (it is important that her possessions are kept at mint condition). All of her multiple cars are petite and aerodynamic - she picks which car she'll use based on which works best with her outfit that day (we will design her favourite car, her prized possession). Aside from the private racing lessons she receives, she uses some social tactics to slither her way to the top. Before the race, she breaks her opponents down, cheerfully putting them down and subtly insulting them. Additionally, she'll sometimes charm or bribe other racers into sabotaging her competition during the race.

Sam and I had already gotten started on sketching some ideas last week so we're already a little off on the design process timeline. I've ended up with a mixture of thumbnails and more detailed sketches (that I promise I did not spend too much time on).

I enjoyed doing the thumbnails. I drew a few on paper, but the method I found smoothest and allowed for the most dynamism for me was using the lasso select tool, then fill tool, to block out my shapes. This was quick and made it easy for me to focus on the shapes I was using. I made a second, half-opacity layer to add some secondary characteristics as well (mostly hair).

I drew these more detailed sketches concurrently because I had this more specific idea just floating around in my head that I wanted to get down (and I also just enjoy figure drawing):

I intended to make more thumbnails but didn't find the time. Thankfully, Sam created more than enough thumbnails for the both of us:

I've been working on annotating and removing redundancies in our moodboard, and properly referencing everything.
